ADHD
Routines that bend: using a tool like Waymaker to build an ADHD-friendly week.
A routine does not have to be rigid to be useful. Here is how planning software—including Waymaker—can carry some of the remembering for you.
Routines help many people with ADHD because they reduce the number of decisions a day requires. The trouble is that rigid routines break the first time life happens—and then they are abandoned. The goal is a routine that bends.
What makes a routine ADHD-friendly
- Anchored: attached to something that already happens (after coffee, before leaving work).
- Short: three steps you will actually do beat ten you will not.
- Visible: it shows up where you look, when you need it.
- Forgiving: a “minimum version” for hard days, so a bad day does not end the habit.
Where software can help
The hardest part of any plan with ADHD is remembering it exists. Tools that hold your goals, show you the next step, and check in can carry some of that load. Waymaker, for example, includes goals and routines, a personal Gameplan, check-in Checkpoints, and an AI Chief of Staff (“Cameron”) that remembers your goals and decisions so you do not have to re-explain them each time.[1]
Waymaker was built mainly for people turning an idea into a side business or product, so it is most useful if part of your routine is building something of your own. Its plans and current free-beta terms are listed on its pricing page.[1]
A simple way to set it up
- Pick one goal for the next month—just one.
- Write a three-step daily routine that moves it forward, plus a one-step minimum version.
- Put both into whatever tool you use—Waymaker, a paper planner, or phone reminders.
- Schedule a weekly five-minute review: keep, shrink, or swap one step.
Use tools selectively
No app fixes ADHD, and maintaining a system should never become more work than the task. If a tool stops helping, it is fine to drop it. The routine matters more than the software.
Start smaller than you think.
Write your three-step routine and your one-step minimum version today. The tool can come after.
