What is Simtriyo?
Simtriyo is indicated for ADHD in adults and in children and adolescents aged 6 or older who weigh at least 20 kg (about 44 lb). The FDA label describes centanafadine as a central nervous system stimulant that inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. FDA label ↗
ADDitude’s October 12 overview ↗ introduces the medicine and its supporting research. Read it alongside the official prescribing information and the newer scheduling update below.
What changed after the ADDitude article?
The FDA approved the new drug application on July 24, 2026. DEA subsequently placed centanafadine in Schedule III, effective October 30, 2026. The article’s statement that DEA scheduling was pending therefore needs this update. DEA rule ↗
Regulatory status is one part of the conversation. Your health history, treatment goals and experience with other options also matter. Local pharmacy stock, personal eligibility and insurance coverage have not been verified here.
What should the care team review?
The FDA label also addresses heart and blood-pressure effects, psychiatric symptoms, growth and appetite, medication interactions, and tics or Tourette’s. Ask which precautions apply to you or the person you support, what monitoring is needed and which changes require prompt attention. Full safety information ↗
Bring these questions
- What are we trying to improve? Name the everyday difficulty that matters most, such as starting tasks, following conversations or completing schoolwork.
- How would we know whether treatment helps? Agree on a few observations and a time to review them. Include your own priorities and how daily life feels.
- How does my health history affect this choice? Bring past treatment responses, relevant diagnoses and recent changes. Ask how the options compare for your circumstances.
- Can you review everything I take? Bring a current list of prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, supplements and other substances.
- What should we watch for? Ask for a follow-up plan, warning signs that need prompt attention and a contact for concerns between visits.
- What would this mean for access and cost? Ask the pharmacist or prescriber to check current availability, coverage and out-of-pocket costs for you.
One useful step today
Write down your most important question and one example of the difficulty you want help with. Add them to your Care Plan or bring a short note to your appointment. A small, specific example can make the conversation easier.
