BACKUP READINESS

If the primary caregiver were unavailable tomorrow, what would happen?

A fast, practical check for gaps in coverage, handoff information and future support.

10 backup areas to work on

  • Could someone cover for 1–2 hours?
  • Could someone cover an evening?
  • Could someone safely cover overnight?
  • Are routines, communication and preferences written down?
  • Is there a current medication/supplement list?
  • Are care-team and emergency contacts easy to find?
  • Is there a transportation backup?
  • Could someone access needed funds/benefit information appropriately?
  • Is there clarity about who can help with decisions if needed?
  • Has a future successor or backup role been discussed?

This is a planning check, not a safety certification. Practice real handoffs before an emergency whenever possible.
