THERAPIES
Trauma-focused therapies (TF-CBT, CPT, PE, EMDR)
Structured therapies designed specifically to process trauma and reduce PTSD symptoms.
How it works
Trauma-focused CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure help a person process traumatic memories and change the beliefs and avoidance that keep PTSD going. EMDR pairs recalling the memory with guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation.
What the evidence says, use by use
Evidence is specific to the condition, population and—for devices—the exact product. One label never covers everything.
PTSD & Trauma: Treating PTSD

Cautions & things to know
- Symptoms can feel stronger before they improve; good therapists pace the work and build coping skills first.
Questions for a clinician
Conversation prompts, not a treatment plan.
- Which trauma-focused therapy do you offer and how were you trained?
- How do we pace the work safely?
