LIFE SKILLS
Home & daily living
Make home tasks smaller, visible and repeatable.
1
Choose ownership
Pick a small task the person can meaningfully own: trash, towels, dishwasher, bed or supplies.
2
Make the finish line obvious
Define what done looks like. “Clean the kitchen” is vague; “dishes in dishwasher + wipe counter” is visible.
3
Put supplies where they are used
Reduce memory and initiation demands by changing the environment.
4
Use a short checklist
Written, photo or visual steps can reduce repeated prompting.
5
Build a reset routine
A 10-minute daily reset can be easier than waiting for a large cleaning day.
6
Plan for support
Roommates, supported living, cleaners or prompts can be legitimate parts of independent living.
