Learning to communicate better with my stepson

A personal note from Ashley about Therapy in a Nutshell, family communication and why caregivers deserve support too.

By Ashley Kays · Published October 24, 2026 · About 2 minutes

Therapy in a Nutshell has helped me communicate better with my stepson. That is the personal experience I want to share—not a promise that one video, one phrase or one approach will work for every family.

I want NeuroCoach to make useful resources easier for parents and caregivers to find, including resources that help us think about our own part in a conversation.

A resource worth sharing thoughtfully

For me, the reason to mention Therapy in a Nutshell is simple: it has been helpful in how I communicate. I am sharing my perspective as a family member, not reviewing it as a clinician or claiming that it has treated my stepson's conditions.

His experiences belong to him. I do not need to share private conversations or describe his hardest moments to explain why better communication matters to me.

The kind of place I want us to build

I want parents to have a place to share kindness, practical ideas and friendship. Somewhere we can find help for ourselves as well as information for someone we love.

You should be able to keep the Facebook groups and relationships that already support you. My hope for NeuroCoach is that it adds something useful: clearer resources, thoughtful conversations, and room for people to encourage one another.

An invitation without pressure

If a resource has helped you, you can describe what you found useful while respecting your family member's privacy. Another person's experience may be different, and that deserves room too.
