Anxiety

Anxiety disorders—generalized anxiety, panic, social anxiety, phobias—are among the most common and most treatable mental-health conditions. CBT, including gradual exposure to avoided situations, and certain medications are established treatments.

GOOD FIRST STEPS

  1. Rule out medical contributors (thyroid, caffeine, medications) with a clinician.
  2. Look for a therapist trained in CBT for the specific type of anxiety.
  3. Notice avoidance—it’s the main thing treatment works on.
